A Morrette's Sandwich is
"a Meal in Itself."
Schenectady native Tony Morrette was traveling though Philadelphia, Pennsylvania many years
ago where he tried one of its famous “Philly Steak” sandwiches. Impressed by how delicious it was,
Tony thought the hometown folks might enjoy it too and so in 1947 Morrette’s King Steak House
on historic Erie boulevard was born.
As Schenectady thrived companies like GE and ALCO, dominated its workforce and Morrette's
lunchtime crowd. It became a popular place to get a great sandwich anytime even late at night.
With a limited menu, the wait staff would simply call out orders to a waiting cook who would then
prepare the sandwiches at a grill and prep area in full view of his hungry customers creating a
unique atmosphere that was enjoyed by all.
In 1973, after many years of success, Tony decided it was time to sell his business and retire, but
not before he found the right people to take over. David Pasquariello with the support of his
parents bought the Schenectady eatery and kept the name that had become so well known in and
around Schenectady. Tony stayed on for a while to teach the new owners everything he knew
about the business and creating the Famous Steak Sandwich that started it all. Throughout the
years not only have Dave’s parents given their support but have taken an active role in the day to
day operations along with other members of the Pasquariello family including his sister Sandy,
son Micah and wife Dolores all of whom are available each day to be certain your visit to
Morrette’s is a pleasant one. This family commitment combined with a dedicated and loyal staff all
share the united goal to continue the tradition of quality, affordability and excellent service. With
a commitment like that, it's no surprise that Morrette's maintains its popularity after 56 years!
Morrette's menu has expanded over the years, many items are made from scratch with no
preservatives or additives, including our own Sausage made with just the right spices. Our Fresh
Cut Fries are in constant demand and our dessert selection features a homemade Mom’s Apple
Crumb Pie (that Mom really makes) that is a treat…...Orders aren't called out to the cook anymore,
but customers can still enjoy watching their meals prepared in our “open kitchen”. Our guests are
also encouraged to enjoy looking at the collection of historical pictures and memorabilia
displayed throughout the restaurant. The Pasquariello family and their staff invite you to join
them in continuing “a Schenectady Tradition" and discover what thousands of people have known
for many years………………
